—Press Association.)

National Health Insurance Forecasts

(By Telegrauh

AUCKLAND, Last Night. "Practically all the statements which have been made so f'ar concerning the Government's proposais for a national health insurance scheme are pure conjecturej" said the Minister of Health, Hon. P. Fraser, in an interview. "I have noticed several reports in the newspapers, most of them emanating from Christchurch, but iavestigations into the whole matter aTe still far from heing finalised ahd accordingly these reports must not be regarded as authoritative. ' ' It was pointed out to Mr. Fraser ithat one statement even went as far as to estimate the possible annual cost of the scheme at £3,500,000 and to suggest that the sum might be raised by an additional wages and income tax of 7d in •the- £1. "No decision has yet been reached •regarding the scope of the scheme," Mr. Fraser said. "We have been engaged for months flow in examining all aspects of the health insurance. Any statements purporting to predict the scope of the scheme and the details ^of its finances are entirely premature and cai y no suggestion of authority.' '
