CHRISTCHURCH, Last Nigbt.. . Pptatoes continue to be the main and ptiactically only ,iteiu\ of iuterest in the grain and- produce znarkets. Suppiies for iinmediate shipment are inolined to be short, • both because th'e demand is good and beeause the weather has held Up digging to some extent. Digging is now in full swing again, and the farmers are more disposed to accept the prOsent market rate of £6 per ton on trucks. The Mahia has sailed for South America with 130Q tons, and • boats to go within jhe' nest f ortnight or ao are the Poxt Caroline with 750 tons, the Pakeha ytith 2000 tons, the Westmoreland with 1750 . tons and the Norfolk and Tairoa With 3500 tOns— be- - tween them a total of 9300 tons. : Coastwise shipments from Lyttelton to June* 6 were 23,023 sacks to Auckland, 13,263 to Wellington, 4441 to Napier ana Gisborne, 7335 to the West Coast of the North Island, and 587 to the West Coast of the South Island — a total of 48,649. There are very few inquiries from the " North Island, and the trade with this quarter is slaek. A fair quantity of rejeets from the South American shipments has been consigned to Auckland. Oats are firm, the rise in Australian prices having assisted the market. A little more ehaff is offering, and there eontinues to be an excellent demand. The price is £4 5s to £4 10s. The rest of the markpts are exeeptionally quiet.
