WELLINGTON, Last Night. A case of malicious mischief is ieported on the Government motor-ship Maui -Pomare. Several parts of the machinery were removed from the deck last night and apparently were deliberately thrown overboa.rd into the sea. T'he overhaoiing of the engines was in progress yesterday at the Taranaki Street wharf, When work ceased in the afternoon. the cylinder heads, pistons and rings were stowed away on the deck. Six lirass rimgs were left on a beneh slightly afl of where the rest of tlie dismaiitled engines lay, but tfcese had disappeared this mormng when work was resumed. The ship was searched, but no trace of them was found until a diver searched Ihe harbour bottom alongside the wharf. • After a full morning 's opertions every ring was recovered.
