Story Not Believed By Police

AUCKLAND, Last Night. The young woman who landed off the Monterey to-day who was described as a waitress, aged 23, residing in Auckland, was later chaTged before Mr C. B. Orr-Walker, S.M., with stowing away on the Mariposa on May 3. She pleaded gililty. The police said they did not accdpt tbo story told by accused as to how she was earried away on the Mariposa and sunended next morning to the officers. They 'suggested that she be remand•d in custody. The total expenses in. volved were £32. Mr Aekins, for accused, said while farewelling friends she had had a good many drinks, and became eonfused. She had never been before the Court previouslv. He asked for probation. The Magistrate: "Why did she go aboard the MariposaT Mr Aekins :To see friends off. The Magistrate: Why didn't ner friends, call the officers I Counsel: I know nothing about that. The Magistrate postponed sentence until later in the day.
