"SEEING LIFE STEADILY"

Life can not be seen in its totality from any one point of view. The point of view of the aged may be no more reliable than that of youth. The professional man may have a view no nearer the truth than that of the man of the street. The man of wealth may have a view as perverted as that of the beggar. Jesus looked at life from the angle of the Son of God and the Son of man. His view was comprehensive. He saw sordid facts as a realist, and beheld grand spiritual possibilities as an idealist. We lack not only . comprehension, but also clarity. We dwell in the twilight; there is an element of haziness with all of us. With life as it is, people frequently go on stampede. In contrast, there is the cairn word attributed to God by the prophet Isaiah at a time of terror in the country of Judah, "I will be still and look on in my dwelling-place, like clear heat in the sunshine, like a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest." Sucli a word is the most sublime expression of faith in the Old Testament. daintliness gives steadiness of vision. The saint is one whose will is translused into the will of God. — O. J. Beardsley, in The Christian Jldvoeate.
