Stanislaus Smolkovski, twenty-yoar-old professional thief, crept at midnight recently into a circus at Myslowitz, Poland, near the German frontier, to stea] the day's takings. He tip-toed past the tents and cages, but not quietly enough. As he felt liis way in the dark along a lion's cage, he awoke the lion. A 'second later Smolkovski was crushed againat the bars. His shrielcs started the other animals in the circus roaring. Circus liands freed Smolkovski, who was taken to hospital.
