The world 's largest sleel wiro ropo was reccnt'ly pioduced in Warrington, Lancashire. Tliis rope is 4 5-6 inches in circumference, approximately 7$ rniles long, in one continuous length without joints or splices, and weighitig approxiniately 57 tons. It took eight weeks to maufacture. The rope consists of 144 wircs grouped in six strands each of 19 wires. These six strands in turn are closed over a manilla centre. The working speed oJ: the rope in service is 13$ mijes per hour. 4
