WAIPUKURAU, Last Night. Presenting convincing argument, a debating team from the Hatuma Debating Club was awarded the judge's verdict against a team 'representing Toe H, Waipukurau, who moved last niglit "That New Zealaud was unable to dei'end itself against invasion by a foreign Power." In giviug his decision. Mr D. W. Neild complimented the speakers upon the quality of their debating, saying that th© nogative side won by only a narrow margiu. The affirmativc was uplield by .Messrs C. It. Watson (leader), H. itobinson and H. S: Triggs, wfiile Messrs A. Ferguson' (leader), G. Edgecombe and L. Cowan took the negative. During tho debate, many from the audienee took an uninvited band iu the disctission, and a certain amount of friendly "heokling" added to the interest and provided some huinour. Members of the Hatuma Debating Club were the guests of Toc H for the evening. After the debate, musical items were given and' a buffet supper provided. The evening was a great success, and Hatuma debaters Jook forward as much as those from Toc H to another similar evening. Mr A . S. WiJder was chaipnuui l'or the evening.
