The discussioh was in committee. As tha result of the representations, the council is tp consider the provision of a lounge in the Assembly Hall. The deputation, which comprised Mesdames Glenny, Hopkius abd Peans, suggested that a lounge should be provided for dancers who dgsired to sit out and rest and smoke, and ulso proposed that arrangements might be made with ihe tenant of thp tearrooms below to provide for the sale of ponintoxicating drinks in thp hall. Eegarding the proposed lounge, &t was suggested that tho gallery in the Assembly Hall might be fitted up to serve this purpose. It waa pointed out to thp deputation that it would be impossible to" grant a monopoly to any one person fpr the sale of non-intoxicating drinks, and further that the general practice whp for soft drinks tp bp provided by those controlling the dance, and in most cases this type of drink was avai^bie. The council 's committee recpmmgnded that an inspection of the Assembly Hajl should be made and that the question of providing a lounge efiould be. def'erred until consideration of the prespnt year 's estimates.
