PROBLEM OF DRINKING IN PUBLIC PLACES

In resppnse to a reeent deputation which waited on the council relative to dripking in public places, a problem which was djscussed by representatives of the women 's organisations in Hastings, the Mayor, Mr G. A. Maddison, forwarded a resolution to the Hastings Townswomen 's iGuild. He suggested that the resolution be placed before the members of the various women 's organisations that instigated the deputation, and if it met with their approvnl it should be forwarded to the Minister for Internal Affairs, Hon. W. E. Pn'ry, for eonsideration. jL'he resolution was as follows: — ''That this meeting of members ofs the Hastings Townswomens Guild emphatically requests the Government of New Zealand to enact legislation during the next session of Parliament, prohibiting thereby the consumption of intoxieating drinks in or about any public hall, club-house, or building tfiat is licensed as a public hall, or is used for public purposes. " I The resolution was brought forward at the monthly meeting of the Guild yosierday afternoon, and its adoption was proposed by Miss Helen Ford, secondcd by Mrs C, P, Hopkins, and unanimously carried.
