THE BANK OF NEW ZEALAND.
To-day's annual meeting of the shareholders of the Bank of Now Zealand has been held under an entirely new chairman, Mr. A. T. Donnelly, from whose address we aro ablo to give on another pago a good few extracts. As is usually tho case, the chairman has nothing much that is absolutely fresh to tell us, his review being for the finanei,al year whose end is already more than two montbs past. At tho same time, , however, it presents in an orderly way and in their relation to oue another facts and figures previously given to us piecemeal. We are thus . enabled to consider them in something like true perspective. While shown with all prudent restraint, they are still such as to indicate a return of prosperity that we nuay hope will have some permanence, if allowed to take its customary course. This will necessarily depend very largely" upon our being able to secure something like as good a return as in the past year for our exports. These for the year under review went up to a total of close on £48|-million, nearly £9i-million more than for the immediately preceding ycear, thus accounting to a large extent for the better times we are liaving> Whether this standard will be maintained depends almost entirely upon the industrial revival * in the Old Country being also maintained, as there is good prospect ^ that it will be for at least a few years to come. In thig respeet th#re- , fore the outlook may be said to be at least hopefuL
