.DARGAVILLE, Last Night. Struck" in the right eye by a pellet from an air rifle late this afternoon, Joyce Dora Manning, aged 13, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Manning, of Dargaville, received what is believed to be a serious injury, and will be taken to Auckland to-morrow morn- ' ing for exainination by specialists. The girl was returning home from school on her bicycle at about 3.45 p.m. and when near the home of Mr. 0. J. Bagby, in Victoria Street, she sa wher brother with Douglas Bagby, aged 12, standing on the footpath. She ealled to her brother to accompany her home, and she was then struck in the : right eye by a pellet from an air rifle ; which young Bagby was carrying. She fell off* her. bicycle and appaTently became unconscious. The two boys went ' to her assistance, and shortly afterward she was met by her mother, who tpok her to Dr, J. A, Marshall. Later she was able to go home, but it is feared she may lose the sight of the eye.
