Should They Wear Blazerii .Over Jerseyi SOUTHERN COMPLAINT
(By Telegraph-
CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. . Reasons for referees of Rugby games sometimes wearing clothing aaditional to that provided for in the regulation* were given by Mr R. J. O. Collins to the management epmmitteo of tho Canterbury Rugby Union laet night. A complaint had been made by Mr w. a . Britten that a referee of a game on Saturday had worn a cokrured blazer over his regulation white jersey and shorts. " A player would not be OHowed to do it," said Mr Britten, "and refereeo should obeerve the regulations." A suggestion that re7erees woro blazens because they were not kept mo-ving enough to keep them warm drew laughter from the committee, but Mr Collins gave a serious explanation. Blazers were permitted under the rulos, he said, and some referees wore them because they were subject to colds, and others because they had been awarded the All Black referee 's jersey for refereeing a test match. In spite of a protest from one member that the complaint was "making a mountain out of a molehill," a recommendation was flnally carried that referees should wear tne correct attirs whenever possible.
