MISSING GUARD
Fall from Train Near Taihape TAIHAPE, Last Night. Anxiety was caused at. the Taihape railway station in the early hours of this morning by the arrival of a train from the north without the guard, Mr M. 8iddle. An urgent inquiry from the stationmaster at Mataroa, six miles north of Taihape, elioited the information that Mr Siddle was aboard the train when it left Mataroa. Grave fears wore entertained for Mr SiJdle's safety, but anxiety was allayed when he put in an kppearanee about half an hour after the arrival of the train. Mr Siddle had slipped on the frosted surfaee of a carriage platform and fallen on to the ballast at the side of the track about a male north of Taihape station. He was in the act of extinguishing the carriage lights when tho accident occurred. Mr Siddle fractured two vibs ao a result of his fall and had to receive medical attentioa.
