Later he went to London to represent the Loan ^nd Mercantile Agency Co. at ; Smithfield. When he came back to New Zealand Mr. Black rejoined the company 's Invercargill branch. In 1906 he jodned Dalgety and Co., Ltd., and, in 1916, was transferred to Dunedin as merchandise manager, On 4he xetirement of Mr. * John Lethbridge he was appointed manager and' from that position was appointed superintendent. Mr. Black was at one time president of the Otago Agricultural and Pastoral Assoeiation. He was a dirfector of the Vactoria InsUrance Company, Donaghy ;s Kope and Twine Co., Ltd., the Westport Coal Co., Ltd., the Perpetual Trus- : tee, Estate and Agency Co., Ltd., and : the National Mutual Life Insurance Co., Ltd.
