Before that Mr. Black was manager of the Dunedin branch of th© flrm. H© was : born at Winton 59 years ago. Mr. Black : joined the New Zealand Loan and Mer- , cantile Agency Co., Ltd., and was : lator connected witfc Michael Carr and 3o.# a firna now out of existence. Later he went to London to represent the Loan ^nd Mercantile Agency Co. at ; Smithfield. When he came back to New Zealand Mr. Black rejoined the company 's Invercargill branch. In 1906 he jodned Dalgety and Co., Ltd., and, in 1916, was transferred to Dunedin as merchandise manager, On 4he xetirement of Mr. * John Lethbridge he was appointed manager and' from that position was appointed superintendent. Mr. Black was at one time president of the Otago Agricultural and Pastoral Assoeiation. He was a dirfector of the Vactoria InsUrance Company, Donaghy ;s Kope and Twine Co., Ltd., the Westport Coal Co., Ltd., the Perpetual Trus- : tee, Estate and Agency Co., Ltd., and : the National Mutual Life Insurance Co., Ltd.
