A GAY EVENING

BACHELORS' AND SPINSTERS' BALL AT ELSTHORPE ELSTHORPE, Last Night. The annual bachelors' and spinsters' ball, always one of the season's most eagerly-anticipated social events in Elsthorpe, was another successful ' and enjoyable function this year. Last Friday evening Elsthorpe hall was entirely transformed by the bright and colourful decorations provided.. Red, white and blue streamers were hung across the hall, while in. the centre were suspendpd clusters of multicoloured balloons. The walls wore adorned with greenery, from which more balloons were suspended. The whole effect made a very gay and attractive scene, as well as being in keeping with the recent Coronation celebrations. ' Les Henry's orchestra was accommodated on the' stage, which was decorated with a huge New Zealand Ensign and greenery. Extras wero played .by Miss A. Macaulay and Messrs. E. Gleadow, W,- August and Beale. I The members of the ball committee deserve much praiso for the work done in making the ball such a suceess, and much credit is given to the joint seeretaries, Miss M. Sutherland and Mr. N. McGaffin, who devotcd much time and energy to the suecess of the f unction.f Messrs. P. Hayden and N. McGaffin proved very efficient M.C.'s. In the supper-room a very dainty supper was provided. The winners of the Monte Carlo and spot waltz were: Monte Carlo, Miss B. Priest and Mr. D. Smith, jnr.; spot Waltz, Miss Ebbett and Mr. A.
