All Ridings Will Share

WAIPUKURAU, Last Night. , Lower Gorge road, about the state of which there have recently been many complaints, has been declared a county road, which means that in future each of the three ridings in the Waipukurau County will bear a share of its maixxtenauce cost. The Government is also to be asked to contribute. The road runs tbrough Crown land? whmh pay no rates, so that formerly the whole buracn of tlie upkeep fell on -the Hatuma richng. Cr. M. Taiifev seconded the motion. Or. J. A. twinburn urged that the Government should be asked to maka a contribution. While not opposing the motion, he pointed out that Purimu riding was going to be put to considerablo expense wi^ii thc Whetukura road. The chairman, Mr A. C. Russell, sairl that he had been informed that at one time thei*e had been a gentlemeu's ag.eemet that tho borough would keep tlie road in order to the bridges, but this had not been done. The motion was carried.
