Oornwall Park Fountain. The new water fountain near the Tomoana road entrance to Cornwall Park was completed last week and plaved for the first time yesteiday. The reserves depa^tment of the Hastings Borough Council has made a general improvement to this entrance, and sevcral of the small lakes have been receiving attentiou and are now about ready to be refilled. A Duai Meeting. The June meeting of fhe Hastings High School Board of Governors, which will take place next Thursday week, is a special meeting for members, for in addition to being the ordinary monthly uieeting it will also be.the annual meetingi. Nominations have aiready come to Hand except for the two Government appointees, but the latter are expected to come to hand any time now. At the meeting there will be the usual appointment of sub-committees. Parade Improvement gcheme At the meeting of the Napier Borough Council to be held this eveniug. the chairman of the reserves committee, Mr A. H. j). Mayne, will move that the Local Government Loans Board be now requeSted to give its approval to the loan proposal for the Marine Parade Improvement sclieme. If and when autliority for the work has been grant- | ed, Cr Mayne will move that immediate steps be taken by the council to raise the lbUii. First Tasto of Winter. A really cold snap during the weekend gave Hastings its first fc&ste of winter. A bitterly cold wind on Saturday afternopn blew up rain clouds from the south-west. A hard frost of 91 degrees yesterday was followed by. a warmer day, but a cmlly breeze made things unpleasant aiid tempeiatures oobn di'bpped after the suii weht down. A cold night was followed by another frost of nine degrees this morning, and heavy rain fell during the hiorning. There have been heavy falls of snow in places south of Hastings and Wellington had its heaviest snowfall for many years. Hours to be observed by the Napier Post Office have been announced by the Chdef Postmaster, Mr A. Pellow.
