Big Shipment for South America

CHBISTCHDBCH, Last Night. The chief activity in the grain and produce markets at present is the assembling and packing Of potatoes for shipment- to South America, Most of the produce stores are very busy With thie work, which iucidentally haS given employment to roughly 200 men. Pour boats will sail withitt the nest three weeks, and by the end Of the month about 13,-100 tons will have been shipped. The Hororata, the krst boat to leave with potatoes, arrived on M011 day and landed her catgo in excellent Condition. Some Orders have been received for shipment after the end oi this month. The mkrket, after a flutter at ffiidweek, is distinctly easier, as apart from export inquiry, there is very little business oh'ering- Shipments to the North Island fecently have been substaptial, and it Will take about a week or ten days to clear the stocks at pteSent held. The price on trucks is now about £6, but earlier in the week saies were made at aS high as £6 10s. With the re'duc tion in the quotation, the farmers have been more willing to sell. The .rest orf the markets are very • quiet, but firm. Chaff is diffieult to get and is worth £1 5s on trueks. There is a fair inquiry for seed wheat, but sowing has to some extent been held up by wet weather, l
