VOLCANOES SUBSIDING
Rabaul Harbour Still Open VULCAN ISLAND ERUPTION (Received 4, 8.30 a>.m.) SYDNEY, June 4. Radio messages received from Rabaul state that the voleanoes are less active except for the one on Vulcan Island, which is belching smoke hundreds of feet into the air. Aviators report there is still a passage into the harbour, although there is a considerable depth of pumice on the harbour bed. Small parties of men from Kokopo are revisiting Rabaul, collecting valuables and important documents. It is feared that a man named Elsworthy perished while climbing an old crater for the purpose of photographing it. Four hundred natives, engaged by the Administration, are cleaning up Rabaul, which js likely to continue as' the capital.
