Some vandal yesterday afternoon at the Doniiuion Art Gall&ry cut a piece cleaa out of Harold Speed's beautiful picture, May Morning, a fine oil painting, 30 inches by 24, depicting a seani-nude figure of a girl sitting agaihst a colourful hackground, The work was purchased in 1928 by the New Zealand Academy for £150 and forming part of a collection presented by the Academy to the National Gallery. The piece cut out is more or less circular, measuring nine inches by seven, and including the upper part of the torso. Whoover committed the vandalism took this piece away, as there is no sign of it. The picture is ruined.
