Contractor Making Good Progress at Waipukurau
(From
WAIPUKURAU, This Day. Mr J. M. Olsen, contractor, pf Napier, is making good headway with the construction of an overhead bridge across tKe railvvay line about two miles on the Waipawa side of Waipukurau. The job is to cost over £3000, and is expected to be completed in about three months. Nine men. are at present working for Mr Olsen under the supervision of Mr M. J. Pennefather, foreman of works. The job involves the laying of five reinforced concrete foundations to hold columns upon which the overhead bridge will be supported. These foundation will probably be completed within a week, after which progress with the work will become more noticeable. The bridge will eliminate one of the worst level crossings in the North Island, for at present tbe roadway curves on to the line at an awkward angle, making it impossible to see the railway line until a vchicle is almost on tbe rails. A separate contract is to be let for the building of the approaches. This work involves a deviation of tbe existing highway, and will require maAythousand cubic yards of spoil, to be procured locally.
