Funds for Waipukurau Candidate in Queen Carnival

WAIPUKURAU, Last Night. On Tuesday afternoon, the first of the Snowball Bridge afternoons in aid of Miss Shirley Clay, Waipukurau candidate in the Central Hawke's Bay Kugby Sub-Union's Queen Carnival, was held at Mrs J. A. McLean's residence, Wallace Road, Waipukurau, when a most enjoyab'le afternoon was spent. Five tables were set up for bridge in the spacious lounge room, which was charmingly decorated with choice hydrangeas and holly-berries. Mrs McLean received her guests wearing a smart gown in fuchia shades, with a gold clasp at the neckline. She was assisted by Mrs H. Peacock, who wag wearing a new rust wool ensemble. During an interlude a delicious afternoon tea was dispensed. At the end of the afternoon's play when scores were added up, Mrs Henderson was found to be the winner, she receiving a pretty cup and saucer. Those present included: Mesdames A. McCormick, S. Train, J. Kendall, J. H. Walker, N Hunter, W. Cuthbert, B. Johansan, C. Schroder, J. G. Clarkson, W. Gray, W. Henderson, V. Bradley, F. J. Runbar, A. Kibblewhite, L. Harker, F. A. G. Dunn; Misses A. llood, E. Dunning, J. Sommerville, B. Mitchell.
