Shooting Season in Wairoa. The shooting season in Wairoa opened on Tuesday morning in beatitiful weather — it would be called so in most outdoor recreations, but not so by sportsmen, for tlicre was not much of winter about it. Not many guns were heard close to .Wairoa, but in the direction of Awamate bags of seven or eight were about the run of the talliea. two guns getting 17 birds. They shot over the rough country in the Manga-a-ruhe ' area. meeting with some successes, but no definite tallies have been seut in. Wairoa Rainfall. The rainfall for Wairoa as recorded. by Mr C. O. Mackay, of Te Putuputu, Ohinepaka Valley, totalled only 1.75 inches for May. This malces the total for the five months of the year 11.28 inches, against 31.81 for the corresponding period of last year, Wairoa Dairy Factory. The -value of the output of the Wairoa dairy factory for the past month, based on 1/- pfer lb., was £5424. The cream supply is grad-Jially lessening. Eirthday Party. Mrs Trafford, of Lahore street, Wairoa, ' gave a pleasing party for her daughter, Miss Kathleen Trafford, on the occasion of her 21st birthday. Thero were 'present about 50 guests, including several from Napier and Gisborne. A very pleasant time was spent in music and dancing. During an dnterval MiSs Trafford was presented with au autographed door key amid some merriment, and many good wishes were extgnded to her. The guest was the recipient of a valuable toilet set aird crystal ware in great variety, for 'which the recipient extended thanks. A dainty supper and the singing of "For She's a Jolly Good Fellow" brought an enjoyahle function to a close. iKing George Memorial Fund. The King George V Memorial Fund for Waipukurau has now reaehed £124 9/6. The fuxid is to be closed fo-mor-row (the late King 's birthday). Donations may be lodged with the Waiuphurau Borough Council, the Patangata County Councjl, tlie Waipukurau County Council, ancl the Post Office." Institute Dance. The Kotemaori Institute dance wa? held in the hall on Saturday night, and was a great suecess. Music was supplied by the Buffalo orchestra, and Mr J. Haliburton was M.C. Mr qnd Mrs B. Scott won the waltzing competition, and- Miss P. Reid w.on the ladies' lucky number. A delightful supper was served by. the ladies of the Institute.
