Miss Rixon, of Queenswood Scliool, has returned from Wellington and is the guest.of Mr and Mrs E. J. Herrick, "Lindisfarne," Hastings. A well-known Waverley resident, Mrs S. R. Symes, celebrated her 89th birthday on Wednesday last. A large number of relatives and friends sent congratulatory messages. Mr Justice O'Regan was yesterday sworn in. as a judge of the Supreme Court, and was then able to receive his appointment as acting-president of the Court of Arbitration. Sir James Parr, who lias taken a house at Richmond, London, will stay for six months in Engtand. He will investigate activities of interest to New Zeaiand. Mr L, de Gielgud, Under-Secretary-General of the Leagu© of Red Cross Societies in Paris, Avill, arrive in New Zeaiand about the niiddle of September. Mr de Gielgud, wlio is at present doiug Red Cross organisatioh Avork iu Japan, will -niake a complete tour of the Dominion, and will hold public meetings iu the larger cities.
