DANGER TO SHIPPING

Removal of Phone from West Quay PORT AHURIRI PROTEST The danger to shipping at Port Ahuriri from the removal of the watchman's telephone from West Quay, Port Ahuriri, to the Harbour Board oLices about 200 yards away was stressed by members of the Port Ahuriri Progrcssivo Assoeiation at thcir meeting last evening. It was pointed out that in case of a vessel being wrecked on the bar, as had occurred previously, a loss or vfuuable time would result in establishing communication with a tug and might easily result in loss of life. Xt was decided to place the m-ittcr urgently before the Napier Harbour Board asking the board to reconsider the matter and have the telephone replaced. The remoml of the Harbour Board offices from Port Ahuriri to the. Breakwater also came under fire. •'This has resulted in a great mconvenience to the shipping and fishing industries which are centred at the port," commented Captain FitzGibbons. "If a boat or anything else requires attention it results in a loss of time." Other members referred to the unsmt.. able worlcing conditions of the offices at.the Breakwater and to the danger to the employees from the cliff behind, which had been proved to be on tho move. It was decided also to communicate with the board on this matter.
