Martin Plays with Jenkin Before K.O.
Bt Tclegraph-
AUCKLAND, Last Night. The professional welterweight boxing coutest to-night between Billy Martin (Australia) and Stan Jenkin (Oamaru) was won by Martin by a knock-out in the eighth round. Martin was clearly the superior boxer from the outset and never at any stage was in danger. On the contrary, after obtaining an early measure of his opponent he permitted Jenkin to tap him on the head, realising that the New Zealander's blows lacked sting. There was only a fair attend* ance and the public must have been disappointed with the contest as it was too one-sided to be entertaining. After concentrating mostly on body punching, Martin sent his opponent down for a count of seven in the eightli round and then finished with a left hook to the ehin, Jenkin being eountcd out.
