WITH THE HOUNDS

Yery Large Field on Saturday SOME CLEVER W0RK (Contributed) Hounds met at Mr E. A. Beattie 's corner, at the Ongaonga cross roads on Saturday. It was a very large field, and moved, off, a Httle after time, to the flats nn the left of _ the road to Tikokino. Almost immediately a hare was found, and it ran straight to the river, where, with hounds close bphind, it turned and Te-crossed the road, pircling wide through the young pines, made again over the road, where. it found cover in gorse, causing a check, but hounds got the line again and killed on the river bed. The Master. then tried Mrs Rathbone's hills and again found quicklv. The line went to the .rushes in a swamp paddock, where hounds, putting up a fresh hare, split, and some delay was caused while the two halves of the pack were whipped off. Huntsman Hindrup took the pack back. to the hills; where they worked ■for an hour among the totara trees, anfl through the young grass. Eventually crossing the road, the field had again to check on the river-bed, but with elever work hounds again got their quarry and killed in heavy gorse. The field then moved to Mr Douglas 's farm, but before getting to tho road double, found again, and after a very short run killed at the cross roads. Another half-hour was put in work* ing Mr Douglas 's flats, but with no result, so the Master brought the' hunt in at 4 o'clock. The thanks of the Hunt go to Mr Dalby Holden, Mrs E. M.
