* All Finish Year in Credit
(From
W AtPUKUR AU, Last Night. All the ridings in" the ! Waipawa county finished the year ended March 31, with a credit balance, though Waipawa and Takapau have fallen below those of last year. Waipawa riding had an increased riding expenditure, but Takapau's expenditure' wa s quite modest. This information- was released yesterday by the chairman of the Waipawa County Council, Mr N. M. Paulsen, in his annual report. "The trouble with the Takapau riding," he said( "is that a number of its ratepayers do not meet their rate qbligations at the proper time. By the late paying of rates quite- a lot of subsidy is lost. Th© balances are as follows: — Waipawa riding (cr.) £175 6/6; Onga riding, (cr.) £1753 18/7 ; Clinton riding* (cr.) £1278 3/6; Takapau riding (cr.) £450 19/1. "These are not quite true balances as a credit of £1251, which was duq from the Treasury before Marcli 31, 1937, did not come in until after that date, and so could not he included in these aecounts " .
