PORT CALEDONIAN SOCIETY

Monthly Ingleside The monthly ingleside of the Port Ahurir Caledonian Society was held in the Buffalo Hall, Port Ahuriri, last evening. It was the final ingleside of the year, ■ and there was a record attendance, including a number of visitors and several people from Hastings. Some of the. Hastings contingent contributed to the evening' s musical programme, the whole of their items being particularly well received and receiving recails in each instance. The " musical part of, the programme had been arranged by Mrs J. A. Rosewarne, and was among the best of the many fine programmes put on at these inglesides from time to time. The programme ineluded items by a small, but vvell-balanced choir, duets by Mr and Mrs Barclay, and Mesdames Sorrell and Berry, voeal solo and chorus by Mrs Rawlinson and choir, elocutionary items and songs by Mr Donald Davies, Hastings, scene from "The Merchant of Venice" by Mr B. Larsen, Hastingis and violin solos by Mrs Duff, Hastings, the last-mentioned ehciting a very pronounced encore. Mesdames Berry and Fairey played the accompaniments. A dance programme of more than usual merit was supplied by Miss Ann Moody's pilpils. It ineluded "Gay Gordons" and Boston Two-step by a company of young dancers. Irish jig trio, Eileen Moody, Ellen Ireland and Marjorie Patterson, American tap dancq, Shirley Boardman ; Highland fling, Betty McNab; Coronation tap-ballet, senior pupils, song and ballet, "Bedtime Story," Eileen Moody and junior pupils, and sword dance, Shirley Boardman. Pipe-Major Lawson piped for the national dances. The usual programme of modern and old-time dances was gone through, Mr and Mrs Berry suppiying tl*3 music .and Mr W. J. Key acting as M.O. The pipe band played a number of Belections most acceptably.
