Inter-Provincial Match with Taranaki SMALL MARGIN

(By Telesraoh-

HAWERA, Last Night. The Wellington Rugby repreaentatives defeated Taranaki by 11 points to 9 in a match played at Hawera' befpre, a record crowd this afternoon,' perfect football conditions prevailing. Wellington were superior in the back division, but they were more than held in the forwards. Taranaki 't weakness was the inside backs who could not get the ball to Sullivan and Smith often enough. Taranaki gave good service from jtho scrnm, but Andrews was round ,on Browaj before the latter could get a pass away. Le Quesne, Yeitch and, Sadler proved a thorn in the side of Taranaki, cutting through effectively and handling cleanly in comparison with their opponents whose passes were slovenly. Wellington opened their account; when Leahy burst through to send Burns over. The next try came almost immediately when Le Quesne beat Brown and Hunter badly and' sent Andrews across, Pollock converting. Sullivan scored for Taranaki early in the second spell after Smith had made an opening. Wareham crossed at fhei corner shortly afterwards, but the try' was disallowed. Taranaki attacked strongly and McClenaghan and O'Dowda were prominent till Le Quesne cleared. Wellington followed up, Pollock kicking a penalty ogal. Hunter made an opening for Sullivan to add another try at the corner, the final try being added on time When Ford outstripped the opposition to score at the corner. The teams were: — Taranaki: Eichards, Smith, Sullivan, Ford, Hunter, Brown, Arnold, McClenaghan, O'Dowda, Coull, Smith, Eichards, Fastier, Gargan and Fowler. Wellington: Pollock, Burns, Hudson, Wareham, Veitch, Le Quesne, Sadler, Andrews, Devine, Guy, Pringle, Wells, - Leahy, Lambourn and Ongley.
