WEST END TENNIS CLUB
Annual Meeting Held The annual general meeting of the West End Tennis Club was held in the Chamber of Commerce rooms last niebt. The club 's pTesident, Mr A. Hampton, presided_ over a large attendance. A review of the past season's workings disclosed a very satisfactory position both financially and in increased membership. The election of .officers for the coming season resulted: Patron, Mr G. A. Maddison; president, Mr A. Hampton; vice-presidents, Messrs' H. J. Grieve, A. Brooker, L. J. Harvey and W. Torr; club captain, Mr A. C. Beale; vi?ecaptain, Mrs A. Arehibald; hon; ^secretary, Mr E. W. Little; hoh. treasurer, Mr_W. Schroder; Hon. auditor, Mr T. Blair; handicappers, Mrs Schroder and Messrs Hobbs and Beale; committce, Messrs Colwill, Hobbs, Jones, Greeu, Lyon, Mrs Schroder, Miss Irwine and Miss Colwill. In addition, a works committee and a gardening committee were elected. As rnany members desire to play tennis during the winter, it' was decided to run a winter club closing on September 1, 1937, and that players should pay 3/an afternoon of tennis or 5/- for the full winter season. At the conclusion of the general business tho president presented the cups and trophies won during the past season, successful competitors being: — Women 's chaVpionship, Mrs Schroder; men's championship, C. Hobbs; combined double championship, Mrs Hobbs and W. Maitland; women 's handieap si'ngles, Miss J. Lassen; men's handieap, singles, E. Lovie; women 's handieap doubles, Misses Colwill and Lassen; men's handieap doubles. Maitland and' Lifjtle ; B-grade combined ' doubles, Miss Farmery and W. Schroder; junior women 's singles, Miss E. Sanders; junior men's singles, T. Henderson. Before the meeting elosed opportunity was. taken to mako a small presentation to Mr and Mrs Schroder to mark the club's aonrecia'tion of their work during tho past season, particu- . lariy in connection with the qucen curuival.
