Elderly Man Killed at Auckland

AUCKLAND, Last Night, Tatai injuries were suffered by Mr Sainuel Taylor, aged 78, at the Ellerslie railway station yesterday afternoon when he was struck by the workers' train as it steamed into the station from the Otahuhu workshops. Although Mr F. J. Wardrope, driver - of the leading engine, applied the emergency brake as soon as he saw the man, there was insuficient time to stop the train and twp , engines and several carriages passed over Mr 'Taylor's body before the train stopped. Apparently he did not see the approaching train as he olambered over the top of the embankment and started to walk across the single track. The fcrain drawn by two locomotives, carried about 400 workmen from the railway workshops at Otahuhu. Mr Wardrope said he did not see Mr Taylor Until he walked across the track within a few feet of the leading engine.
