WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

Bay View Gathering The M!ay meeting of the Bay View Women 's Institute was held in ' TTing George 's Hall. Mrs. Olsen presided over a good attendance of members and welcomed several visitors. The meeting opened with the National Anthem, followed by the Institute song. Mrs. Walden read her detailed report on the half-yearly meeting of the Northern Hawke 's Bay Federation, to which she was a delegate. Members discussed arrangements for a concert, the date of which is to be left until later. As the June meeting falls on the day set aside for the King's Birthday, it was decided to hold it on the fourthWednesday in that month. The newest Institute baby, Valerie Johnson, was presented with a P.O. bank box. An interesting letter was received from Whitby, Ontario, the Institute 's link in Canada. Sister McQallum gave an interesting talk on Egypt. Members were very interested in a broock representing the key of the Nile, also a necklace with various Egyptian symbols attached. Miss Nicholls who, during the after- j noon was proposed as a panel domonstrator, gave a demonstration of rope mat-making. A saies table in charge of Mesdames Stratford and S. Hard, did ,brisk business. The main feature of this table was a generous donation made -by Mrs. Harvey of four hot-water bags with knitted covers, and two pairs of baby booties. The competition for the month resulted: — Best school child 's lunch, Mrs. Mitchell 1, Miss Nicholls 2, Mrs. Wilson 8. The silver miniature cup for best bloom was won by. Mrs. Wilson (pansy), with Mesdames Rogers and Les Staniland (chrysanthemum) and Mrs. Peterson (chrysanthemum) third. A dainty afternoon tea, served by the hostesses, Mesdames Mandy and McHardy, brought another pleasant afternoon to a close.
