Otane's 10th Birthday The monthly meeting and tenth | birthday party of the Women 's Insti- : tute were held in the Town Hall on Friday afternoon, Mrs R. H. Tod presiddng over a large -attendance. The molto for the month was "Perseverance, the motto on which you rely, be honest and truthful, and never say dde. Two trees, to commemorate the Coronation, are to be planted in the Recreation Ground by institute members. The president extended a welcome to the visitors, of which there were a large number/from Omakere, Pukehou and Tikokino. A very enjoyable eocial hour was spent, musical and elocutionary items being given by Miss Kittow> Miss and Master Forbes, Minto and Miss Frances Pilcher. A splendid play-reading by Mrs Moller, of Hastings, was a delight to listen to, and mombere hope they wull be privileged to hear this talented play-reader again in the near future. Mrs Campbell, Southern Hawke 's Bay Federation president, presented the points prijzes for the year to the winners, Mesdames Spargo, junr., Roach and F. Smith. A sumptuous afternoon tea was served, and the handsome birthday cake, adorned with ten candles, which were lit by Mrs Tod and bloy/n out by Graeie Price, the youngest member, was cut by Mrs Wheeler, assisted by Mrs Franklin, Te Aroha, a former member and secretary. Two competitions held during the afternoon and which caused much amusement, were won by Mrs MacDougall and Mrs A. Bull. The singing of the National Anthem brought a very pleasant afternoon to a close. j
