MRS BETSY PURVIS
There passed away at her ' Tesid Jnce, 6G0 St. Aubyn street, Hastings, on Sanday afternoon Mrs Betsy Purvis, wife of Mr William Purvis, at the age of 92 years. Mrs Purvis was one of the oldest residents of Hastings, having lived in this district for over 60 years. Her father, Mr Samuel Bartlett, arrived in Wellington in 1840. Mrs Purvis was born iu Wellington, and she remembered well the great earthquake of 1855. She also passed through the Hawke's Bay earthquake of 1931, and she often used to remark that both quakes wero somowhat similar. Until quite recently Mrs Purvis was in possession of all her "faculties, and she could tell many stirring stories of the old colony. • Grcat sympathy will be extended to her husbaqd and two daughters, Mrs W. E. Northe, of Napier, and J. Wilkinson, of Wellington. There are five grandduughters.
