Evenlng Classes. The Education Board has received advice from the Department that recognition would be given to the evenlng classes in woodworking and dressniaking to be commenced by the Waipawa Technical Association. The Association will make a start with the dressmaking class on Tuesday evening next, and it is hoped within a day or two to have the other class also in tull swing. Loyal Abbotsford Lodge. The quarterly meeting of the Loyal Abbotsford Lodge, Manchester Unitj' Oddfe.lows, was held on Friday evening, the N. G. Sister B. Weston presioing over a good attendance of members. An invitation was received from the Loyal Meeanee Lodge to visit them, and it was decided that endeavours ha made to arrange sueh a visit on Monday, June 7, arrangements being left in the hands of Bros, MacPherson and Kingston. The election of officers for the ensuing term resulted as follows: — N.G. Bro. N. MacPherson; V.G. Bro. M. Fair; E.S. Bro. F. W. HoJt. It was decided to invite members of Tavistock (Waipukurau), Takapau, and Ruahine (Tikokino) Lodges to be present at the installation of officers at the next meeting of the Lodge. Waipawa Savage. The first korero of the Waipawa Savage Club for the 1937 season was held in the Concert Hall with an attendance of over fifty members and visitors. Past Chdef Savage S. W. Strang was in the chair, and after an amusing sketch presented by Savages Douglas, Ohisholm, DaJlas and Rapley, duly installed the Chief-elect, - Savage E. W. Ohisholm. In investing the Cliief with the sacred Tiki, Savage Strang said he felt sure the traditions of tlie club, which had been upheld for twenty years by Past Chiefs, would be safe jn the hands of the Chief-elect, and assured him of the loyal /support of all members of the hapu. Savage Ohisholm retur'ned tlianks for the honour bestowed upon him and assured the club he would do everything possible for its welfare. Following the installation the usual programme was presented commencing with a community sing conducted by Savage Barker, who also contributed a vocal solo. Savage Woods sang, Savage Strang gave a brief but interesting talk on "The Life of Chiero", Savage Holt contributed a number of Limericks, and a visitor, Savage Jacobsen, wns well received with his ventriloqism number. A nnmber of songs by Savage Venner, recently joined from the Masterton Club, were very popular, and an instrumental trio by Savages Rust (piano), Chalmers (violin) and Motley (tenor liorn) concluded a most enjoyable evening. The koreros in futuro will be held on alternate Thursdays, commencing from June 3, the programme for the next korero being in the hands of Savages Barker and Woods Hoie-in-One. Uping a number fivo iron at the seventh tee, Mr Donald Scott, well-known Waipukurau golfer, holed in one at the Maharakeke golf links on Saturday ai'ternoon. The distance was 135 yards A few holes earlier he sank a pntt for a. two. This is the first occasion of a hole-In-one at Maharakeke this winter, and Mr Scott cclebrated the occasion in the orthodox and popular manner. Glerical WorKers' Union. A conference representing power board and hospital board executives re« garding a new Local Body Clerical Workers' Union was held at Palmerston North at the end of last weelc, the diseussion being in committee. Messrs P. R. Smyrk (Waipukurau) and E. T. Eees (Napier) represented the hospital boards of this province, and Mr G. E. Fowler (Waipukurau) the power boards.
