WAIPUKURAU'S W1N OVEROLD BOYS

WAIPUKURAU, This Day. Giving a convincing display both in the vanguard and rearguard departnients, Waipukurau defeated Old Boys ' at Centrai Park, Waipukurau, by 19 points to three on Saturday afternoou. Tlie game attracted a large attendance for both teams were popular favourites. The losing teani played a sound defensive game, but Waipukurau' s forwards proved difficult to stop when onee on the attaek. The teams were : — Old Boys. — Ross, Galfy, Jamieson, Monteith, W. Raynxond, Morton, Jamieson, Coles, Brain, Tansley, A. Wilson, Robinson, Reidy, O. Wilson and 0. Rayniond. Waipukurau: Lovett, Orappe, Rupuhu, Higgins, ,T. Ferguson, Gibson, MeKay, Ohapman, Benson, Spotswood, Johnston, Lane, Little, M. Ferguson, Pedersen. The match was a particularly fast one, and for the most part the taekiing was sound, although some players persisted in the round-the-neck eollar, which is not considered good Rugby. Waipukurau scored first when Lane went over ' in a handy position and Higigins converted. At half-time Waipukurau were eight points in the lead, and during the second spell they added another eight points. Bustling tactics " by Waipukurau after the interval kept Old Boys on the defence, and the losing side liad the opportunity of showing that when up against it they were a sound defensive team. The scorers were, Waipukurau: Lane (try), Gibson (two tries), Higgins (two conversions), T. Ferguson (try), Gibson (try). Old Boys: Brain (try). Mr W. Phillips refereed.
