Batsmen on Top in County Matches " LONDON, May 21. In contrast to the previous series of matches batsmen had the better of the argument in the county cricket championship games which were completed to-day. Some of the matches were interfered with by rain. Among those who scored centuries was C. S. Dempster, the former New Zealander who is now Leicestershire 's captain. Scoring was particularly heavy in the match between Warwicksliire and Yorkshire, three centuries being scored for the former team and one for the latter. Three centuries were also included iu Glamorgan 's score of 469 for seven wickets against Leicestershire. Results are: — Essex v. Surrey, at Chelmsford.— • Burrey 186 (Stephenaon five for 75). Essex 55 for three wickets. Match drawn. SuBsex v, Northamptonshire, at Hove. — Sussex 365 for nine, declared (J. Parks 122). Northamptonshire 69 (Oakes four for 11) and 168 (Tate four .for 27). Sussex won by an innings and 128 runa. Yorkshire v. Warwickshire, at Birmingham. — Yorkshire 492 for nine, declared (Sutcliffe 70, Hutton 88, Smailes 109). Warwickshire 496 for eight (Croom 118, Wyatt 152, Dollery 110). Warwickshire won on the first innings. Hampshire v. Lancashire, at Manchester. — Hampshire 280 (Pothecary 100; Pollard six for 83) and 161 for ISeven. Lancashire 224 (Boyes four for 48)'. Hampshire won on the first inn'ings. Glamorgan v. Leicestershire, at Leicester. — Glamorgan 469 for seven, declared (Dyson 226, E. Davies 139, Turnbull 135). Leicestershire 164 (E. Davies four for 27) and following on, 256 (Dempster 102). Glamorgan won iby an innings and 49 runa. Gloucestershire v. Middlesex, at Bristol. — Gloucestershire 246 and 215 for nine, declared (Barnett 76). Middlesex 176 (Goddard five for 73) and 200. Gloucestershire won by 85 runa. Cambridge University v. Nottingham'shire, at Cambridge. — Cambridge 259. Nottinghamshire 37 for none, Match drawn.
