Makotuku Meeting

MAKOTUKU, Last JNignt. On Wednesday morning the annual meeting of the Makotuku Sheep Dog Trial Club commenced in mild weather. In previous years this club has been very unfortunate, as there has usually been cold, bitter weather, which, while it did not prevent the attendance of the public, made the occasion less enjoyable. This yoar the meeting is more fcrtunate, warm, sunny weather being oxperienced. Following are the results — CLASS I. — SHORT HEAD AND YARD R. Wiffen's Bet, 54i pts 1 J. Like the previous three days of the Wairoa County Collie Club trials and the Hawke 's Bay Centre Championships, the weather was dull, but by 10. 30 the sun shone brightly, and an early start was made with Class III., the huntaway, for which there were 40 cntrics. Concluding results are — • CLASS HI.— HUNTAWAY Oolonel Neilson's (Napier) Piper, 42 pts 1 E. Tong's (Wairoa) Fan,- 394 pits. 2 J. Donnelly's (Wairoa) Sandy, 384 pts., and W. MeKenzie's (Havelock North) Stan, 384 pts (equal) 3 MAIDEN HUNTAWAY / R. Ireland's Boy ............ 1 L. McGath's Jock 2 L. Magpusson's Rock 3 9 Ohampion dog. — Mr J. Thom's Tip. Weight-estimating, one live sheep (actual weight 145 lbs.). — Mr W. J. Hill and Mr Guy Ormond estimated the exact weight, and on a draw Mr HiU won.
