Meeting of Committee CANTEEN FUNDS CONTROL The monthly meeting of the committee of the Hastings Keturned Soldiers' Aissociation was held last evening. The president, Mr P. J. Priest was in the chair. Other members present were — Meesrs P. J. S. George, L. J. Mackersey, S. I. Jones, D. S. McLeod, W. A. Mclntyre, A. J. Manson, L. J. B. Hammond, F. H. Goldfincb, F. B. Fieia, O. Prebble, and V. A. Thomson (secretary). Before the business commenced, a vote of sympathy with the widow and family of the late Mr H. J. Bussell, general secretary of the Hawke 's Bay War Itelief Association, was passed, all pre-. teent standing in silencc. Sub-committees were set up to take charge of arrangements for the quarterly reuuions and to administer the Canteen and Poppy Day funds. In connection with Canteen Funds, advice was reeeived from headquarters that the monthly grants from these funds would cease in July. The Canteen Funds Board is of the opinion that in future the funds should be used for the benefit of unemployable rather than of unemployed ex-service men. The matter is to be discussed at the annual conference of the Beturned Soldiers' Association next month, and the deci*fion arrived at will be placed before the Cauteen Funds Board. Colonel A. J. Manson was appointed to organise the E.S.A. ball which is to be held on August 5. A resolution was passed congratulating Colonels Holderness and Manson, Mr E. L. Cullen, M.P., and Staff Sergeant-Major Fisher on their being awarded Coronation medals. A resolution was passed expressing the thanks of the association to the following for their assistance in the Anzac Day celehrations — Borough Council, Citizens' and Pipe Bands, police, traffic inspcctor, Ministers' Association, and Mr H. G. Parker.
