DUNEDIN, Last Night. Observing that there was no reasonj why it should interfere in a jnatter of this kind, Mr. J. E, Bartholomew, S.M., refused a request by the Otago University Studpnts' Association fpr suppression of the hame of a student, Eichard Maun^ell Martin, who was charged with being intoxieated in charge pf a motorcar. The defendant, according to coynsel, indulged in the capping carniyjal revelry and having been in poor health, was more than prdiaarjly afiected by the liquor taken. The Magistrate, in fining the defendant £5 and cap.celling his h.cense for twelv.e mpnths, stated that one could . have a certain amount of sympathy with the defendant, yhose physics! c.pndition, already weakened by iil-healfh, had been affectcd by a small quantity of beer, but the public interest had to ' bp epnsidered.
