' m u Hastings Coronation and Jubilee Celebrations * CHAMBER'S GRATIFICATION Gratification at the manner in which the Coronation and Borough Jubilee celebrations were carried out in Hastings was expressed at the meeting of the Hastings Chamber of Commerce last evening, when it was decided to write to the organisations concerned congratulating them on the success of the celebrations. "I think that we, as a Chamber, should pass a hearty vote of thanks to the Mayor and counoillors and others concerned in the carrying out of the celebrations in Hastings," said the president, Mr H. W. C. Baird, when bringing up the subject. "We have all joined very heartily, and it really was a wonderful display. It is also a matter of congratulation that so wonderful a wave of enthusiasm was created, and we should also extend our congratulations to those responsible for the scheme of decoration and for the manner in which it was carried out. "We should also appreciate the service that was given by the various women 's organisations," he said. "The women did such a wonderful lot. They were responsible for a wonderful uplift to the town and districts, and I feel that we should take off our hats to i them for what they have done. | "The business people, too, are de- ! serving of thanks for their interest and I hqlp, and we should express our ap- ! preciation to' them for the manner in which they helped the Mayor and councillors, " said Mr Baird. He movted that letters should be sent to the Mayor and council, the Retailers' Aesociation, the Hastings and District Progress League and the Townswomen's Guild expressing the Chamber's thanks, congratulations and appreciation for what they and all the others who assisted affiid co-operated with them, had contributed to the staging of the celebrations. This was seconded by Mr A. C. A. Hyde, who' said that it was very pleasing to note that the efforts had been baclced up by the citizens, as was made abundantly evident on Coronation Day by the enthusiastic rally at Nelson Park. "The womenfolk must have put in a great deal of effort with the pageant," he said. "It really was a wonderful effort and was greeted with great enthusiasm." The motion was carried by acclamation.
