Large Crowd of "Diggers" Attend

e WAIPAWA, This Day. Despite nnfavourable weather conditions, there was a very large attendance at the annual re-union of the Waipawa and Distriet Returned Soldiers' Association held in the Municipal Theatre. Visitors were presont from as far south as Woodville, and from Napier in the north. One "Digger" made a special trip from Wellington in order to be present. Mr H. T. Limbrick was in the chair, and. the following toasts were honoured: "The King"; "The New Zealand Returned Soldiers' Association," proposed by Mr A. E. Jull, who expressed pleasure in the fact thafc the association, which was now in its >21&t year, was still doing very good wfjrk and the membership this year had again shown an increase. 'Mr Limbrick responded. The toast "Absent Gomrades" was proposed by Mr F. Adeane; "The H.B. War Reiief Association," was proposed by Mr G. Voyce, and replied to by Mr J. N. Barrie, the chairman of the association; the toast to the "ursing Sisters" was in the hands of Mr G. Poppelwell, of Napier, and replied to by Mr L. O'Halloran; . "Tho Visitors" was proposed by Mr R. Meredith and replied to by Mr J. Brrdley, of Dannevirke; "The Army, Navy, eud Air Force" was proposed by Mr O. G. E. Harker and responded to by Messrs A. E. Black, A. O. Williams and W. Spicer. The toast list was' intersperBed with musical items contributed by Mr Meyer, a visitor from Napier, Mr A. E. Jull, Messrs Bradley and Te Tau, visitors from Dannevirke, Mr J. Russell, Mr E. J. Maher, and the orchestra. ^£he roll was called during the ovtmlng and "Auld Lang Syne" at J0.30 brought a very happy gathering to a close. The annual meeting of the local association will be held in the Municipal Theatre to-night (Monday), and all members and intending members are earnestly requested to be present.
