Findlay's Bakeries Score At Waikato Show

PRIZE AWARDS Findlay's Bakerdes, of Hamilton and H&stings, Were phenomenally successful at the Waikato Show this week. In the. New Zealand championship there were 75 entries from the leading bakeries in the Dominion and Mr Frank Findlay took first and eecond and Findlay^, Hastings, tMrd. The detailed results are as follow: — Wholemeal Bread (Bisley Challenge Cup) : Frank Findlay (Hamilton) 1, H. A. Sutherland 2, F. Herbert 3. Two Ioaves (one brown, one. white): "Frank Findlay 1 and 2, Stacey and Hawker 3. Two loaves white bread: Frank Findlay 1 and 2, E. J. Leach 3, C. J. Callaghan h.c. One fruit loaf : Frank Findlay 1 and 2, E. J. Leach 3. Milk loaf: Frank Findlay I and 2, Simm and Co. 3, NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIP. Frank Findlay 1 and 2, Findlay's (Hastings) 3, O. J. Callaghan h.c. Mr J. O. Boniface, of Palmerston North, was the judge. JTIDGE'S COMMENTS. "The standaid of the exhibits, I might say, is particularly high, in view of the fact that the quality of flour available has not been equal to that of previous years," said Mr J. O. Boniface, in commenting on the entries in che bread section. He stressed the necessity for esbibitors, especially those * who were unsuccessful, to visit the show and see just what a high standard was neceseary to reach the prize-winn'ing status. He also emphasised the need for more Lhorough experimentation by some competitors. Such experimental work, far from being wasted time, was definitely jf .assistance in business. This applied, of course, to all classes of competiitive exhibits. Mr Frank Findlay is head of the (lrm of Findlay's Bakery in Hamilton and is adviser to the firm in Hastings. In view of the large number' of entries (75 in the champdonship and 139 in all other classes)^ Findlay's have recorded a meritorious win, particularly in view of the fact that tbe Hamilton Winter Show stages what are regarded as the most important bread exhibits dn New Zealand. The manager of Findlay's, Hastings, states tfiat the loaf which won the place in th© championship class wasnot in any way a special loaf bnt was one taken from the rack in the ordinary course and preeisely the same as delivered to the people in Hastings. It was intended that Findlay's, Hastings, should be repreeented in all the bread classes, but owing to pressuro of business this was not possible. Commenting on the. results, the Waikato Txmes states:— -"In the professional bread classes this year, Mr Frank Findlay, Hamilton, set up an enviable reeord. For the fourteenth time in the 16 years in which the event has been held he'won the New Zealand bread championship, out of a field of 75 — and also filled second place— and in the other five professional bread classes he took first and second awards in four and first in the fifth. — P-.B.A.
