Preparation of Surface WORK COMMENCED Tbe prepai'atiqn of the surface of the W aiohiki-Pakowhai road, which is to be sealed with bitumen uext summer, bas been commenced, Very beavy gradipg work is being done at "The Rise" to form tbe road to tbe required level, Owing to tbe bigb crown in tbe road tbe grading will c'ontinue to be of a beavy nature for a considerable distance. A start is to be made almost iuiraediately witb the spreading of red motai quarried at Redclyffe. A substantial layer is to be put down so as to provide a solid foundation for tbe sealing." For many years tbis important road bas been tbe subjeot of numerpus representations to tbe Hawke's Bay County Council, and settlers are gratified to see tbat a start b$jr been made with the work. j
