Sir Neville Henderson, when handing in his credentials to Herr Hitler, said, "It is hot only ' a f ormality when I say that I start life in Germany with the firm intention of doing everything in my'power to promote .the cause of Anglo German u'nderstanding, which is the desire of his Majesty, the British "Government and the people. I am con-' vinced that no question betwcen Britain and Germany cannot be solved with mutual consideration and goodwili." Herr Hitler replied, "I sincerely wel*' coine the communication. It is also my! conviction that no auestinn cannot' be solved in the peaceful co-operation which is a necessity for the prosperity" of England , and Germany, as well as for general jjeace."
