PATRIOTIC ATMOSPHERE AT CORONATION BALL
Effective Decorations in Red, White and Blue
A gay and figtriotio atmosphere preil " "" vailtxl last evening at the Hastings Assembly Hall when dancers from far and near were present at.tbe Coronation Ball organised by Mrs T. H. Lowry and Mrs W. G. Stead to celebrate the coronation of Their Majesties Ring George and Queen Elizar beth, and to raise mo-ney in aid of the King George V. Memorial Fund for the Health Camps for' New Zealand children. The decorations in the hall and sup-per-room were splendidly carried out in ihe appropriate scheme of red, white and blue. AU round the walls was hung bunting in these three colours, and here and there were heraldic plaques. From the centre of the ceiling were hung huge clusters of red, wh'ite and blue^balloons. On either side of the stage wereflags, and overhead a huge crown. Edging) the stage were massos of bamboo intermingled with large poppies of red, •white and blue paper. Jardinieres arranged. with eimilar flowers stood at each side of the supper-room door. Decorating the stage were most beautifully arranged bowls. and tall vases of lovely autumn foliage, huge white chrysanthemums, blue delphiniums and red poppies and wall baskets were decorated in the same way. The whole decorative schemp was most effective and all present agreed "that it reflected great credit on the members of the compaittee wh,o were responsible. An .excellent programme of dance music was played by Wi Duncan's orchestra, and each dance on the programme was appropriately named, Sandringham Waltz, Balmoral Foxtrot, etc. A very tempting buffet supper was served in the supper room, where equally beautiful decorations had b.een carried out. Placed diagonally across the.tables with their white cloths were red and blue ■ streamers, and the crygtal bowls and vases were, filled with scarlet berries and foliage. Overhead the walls hung bunting and flags as well as Coronation emblems. Mr G. E. Rogers was an efficient secretary for the ball. , Mrs T. H. Lowry wore a gown of burgundy apgelskin crepe and a matching coatee with wide bands of brown musquash edging the cape sleeves. Mre W. G. Stead 's trained gown was of black matelasse patterned in white, having scarf draperies from the shoulders and a rose tinted shoulder spray. . . Mrs G. A. Maddison, black panne velvet gown the high decolletage caught with- clasps, of brilliants and on on» shoulder a scarlet spray., ; Mrs A. ' X Kainbow, niidnight blue needlerun lace gown with a corsage posy.of natural flowers in coronation sliajcles. ; Mrs W.'R, Stead, very deep green cotelle with circular clasps. of brilliants at each side of the square neckline. Mrs Eric Nelson, sea green angelskin embxoidered with silver circles and having clasps at each side of the neck. Mrs W. N. Barron, deepest ivory chantilly lace gown and three-quarter Coat worp'with a brown fox fur. Mrs J. C. Tosswill, gown " of black georgette with crystal beads embroidering the. corsage. Mrs G. Bochfort, black georgette with insets'of black chantilly lace. Mrs . A. D. Morris, black satin flowered an gold and orange shades with wing sleeves and waterfall sash. Mrs H. Coleman, . black satin patterned- in shell pink and having draped sleeves. Mrs R. Cashmore, black mariette gown with rose . shaded corsage spray Worn with a black taffeta coatee. Mrs 1). Lane, trained gown of .violet crepe carita with silver lame belt and a lovely white fox fur. Mrs J. B. Hunter, rust romaine gown with cape effect and pink flowers at the neck. Mrs E. H. N. Beamish, frock- of bionze and green taffeta with a raatching quilted coatee. Mrs Selwyn Averill, ivory crepe romaine gown worn with a cape of the fiame material. • Mrs O. Krogh, fuchsia shaded cloque gown with tinted corsage flowers and a small coatee of the same material. Mrs M. E. Ellison, bungundy georgette gown worn under a black fur trimmed coat. Mrs W. Bichmond, deep midnight blue panne velvet fashioned with bows over the shoulders. Mrs W. B. Maxwell, black cloque gown with brilliant clasp at the neck and ivory satin lining the siashed sleeves. Mrs G. Hobson,. deepest midnight blue cloque trained gown with lehiou corsage flowers. Mrs Brian Boys, 'gown of ocean blue pilver threaded cotelle with cherrv flowers at the neck. Mrs F. K. Faulkuer, periwinkle blue fhiffon patterned with white flowei,s) and having cape sleeves.
