Arrival of Rangitata. The R.M.m.v. Rangitata, which left Wellington on April 7, arrived at Plymouth, 'England, on Sunday and arrived at London last Monday morning. §0hool HOlidays. The sohools in Hastings aud other parts of the Hawke's Bay Education Board's districts officially conamence their term holidays to-day. As yesterday was a, public lioliday the schools aotually closed on Tuesday aud will not reopen uutil next Monday week. Memoriai Fund. The Mayor, Mr G. A. When it left the rpad near The Kennels at Pakipaki about 5.15 p.m. yesterday a car proceeding south was extensively damaged, but the only occupant, Mr Pat Barker, of Opapa, escaped with only minor injuries. In addition to the other appearances that tbe Hastings Citizens' JHand has made during the Coronation celebrations in Hastings, it will be making a special public appearance this evening, when it will play in Heretaunga street, providing a programme of national and appropriate music and seleptions. Crowds in Town. The crowd in town last night was probably greater evem than the usual Saturday-night crowd, altkough the shops were all clqsed. The Highland Pipe Band paraded through the main street playing apprppriate Scqttish airs. The Pqst Office was floqcllit and most other large " buildings were hrightly illuminated, RqSh Anticipated. "The Oqronatiqu celebrations have. gpqe tq their heads and they've forgotten all about registering their cars, but you wait, we will have tq touoh their pockets very soon," commented an offieial at the office of the motor registrations department at the Hastings Post Office this morning. "I'm afraid there's going to be the biggest rush and erush we've ever experienced during the next two weeks,'' he added ruefully. Boy§' Brigade, (Wh0 are they?" Thas was the question on many lips yesterday when in the Coronation procession a cqmpany of boys in nayy-biue uniforms with white accessories was seen. These boys represented the First Hastings Company pf the Boys' Brigade, an Empire-wide mbvement of which His Majesty King George VI is patron. The brigade was founded in Glasgow in the year 1883 by Sir William A. Smith. Much Road Trafflp. There was an exceptional voiume of traffic on the main highway between Hastings and Napier yesterday afternoon and evening, indjcating that hundreds of citizens of the two sister towns exchanged visits. Several motorists were heard this mbrning commenting on the number of cars on th® road, and a Herald-Tribun© reporter was informed that tallies taken by passengers in three different . vehicles, on® early in the afternoon, a second after the races and th© third in the early part of the evening, revealed that from 267 to 315 cars passed in the half-hour that the counts were mad©. 9 Coronation Stamps, The three special Coronation stamps were placed on sale at the Hastings Post Office this morning. The values are one penny, twopence-halfpenny, and sixpence, apd these for the time being have replaced the current pictorial stamps of those denominations. The Coronation stamps have been printed by the million, sinc© it is intended that supplies shall last for the greater part of th© remainder of the year. In spite of this, there was a big rush this morning on the part of those who wanted "first-day" cancellations, and quite a steady demand was experienced at the Post Office. The overprinted stamps for use in Niue are also available from to-day, but those for the Cook Islands will not be issued until June 1.
