Monthly Meeting of Council •

WAIPAWA, This Day. The following business was transacted at tjie monthly meeting of the Waipawa County Council, Mr N. M. Paulsen being in the chair. Mr N. L. Larsen wrote disclaiming liability for flooding of roads near Mangaotuku Bridge. — The engineer reported that the flooding, was due to blocked drajns and watercourses on Mr Larsen' s property. The engineer is to intervlew Mr Larsen in the matter. The Central Hawke's Bay Power wrote advising that it was proposed to ereet new iines Argyll, Springhill and Takapau, and asking the council' s approval.— Matter left in the hands of the chairman, linesman and engineer, with power to act. B. E. Collin asked permission to graze cows on .road at Ashley Clinton nar his property. — Unable to grant request under Impounding Act. R. E. McGaffin Ltd., offered £30 for purchase of old White truck. — Left in hands of the engineer. The chairman advised that during the month the linesman had reported that railway rails suStable for telephone poles were now available, and he had autliorised the purchose of 20 tons.— Action endorsed. Authority was given for the road near Tikokino 'school to he reformed and metalled at a cost of £6. Reference was made to the difficulty of getting stock over the Sherwood bridge, and it was deeided to extend the rails at the approaches to do awav with this difficulty. Trees are to be eut down between the country section and adjoining section at Takapau. The • engineer reported that tji© Fletcher's Crossing bridge was in a very bad condition, and it was deeided to have the district engineer of the Public Works Department make an inspection, and to erect -danger signs at each end. The engineer is to go into the matter of improving. the corner at Waldron's. on the Tikokino road. The purchase ofJ 500 Coronation medals for presentation at the schools in the county was autliorised. The statutory meeting of the council will be held on May 26. at noon.
